Earth Day Emergence
I suppose it is a good day to emerge from the winter solstice. I did a bit of hibernation from social media and blogging, but a few urged me to get back to it to announce my seasonal workshops and tell you a bit about my current body of work.
My work this winter season was more conceptualizing and experimental rather than actual producing of a body of work. To be honest it is hard for me to balance creating art and my emotions around the wars, the humanitarian crisis playing out, politics and people just being so unkind, and then add in climate change (sorry for my rant). Everything just seemed off… with the El Niño weather pattern we had very little snow, mostly dry with strong winds, then rain. Wind has been pretty consistent, we lost another giant evergreen this winter, and many branches strewn across the yard, which reminds me of the current state of my studio!
Okay, done with weather report. I have been experimenting with an assortment of lighting, ones that hang, sconces and refining my table top lanterns. All have botanical printed fabrics, I am now incorporating fabrics that are naturally dyed and also some antique trinkets, which add a bit of whimsy to them. Why lighting? Honestly I think it has to do with the warm glow they bring to a space. Is it just me, or does everyone these days need a bit of comfort and gentleness to experience?
Images of the collections will be posted shortly, all need to be photographed and uploaded to the website. To help me procrastinate from completing this task, I started my seeds for my dye garden, which always lifts my spirits, lol! Collections are being assembled now that Spring is here, I am excited to share these pieces with you. Also, I will be teaching at a few venues this summer/fall all will be posted on website…after I tend to my seedlings, lol!
